Hello world,Today was a good day. We had our first truly Scottish rainy day. Not a drizzle, not dreich, but good-shower-pressure rain. We failed at cooking dehydrated eggs… epically. Lesson learned: always follow the instructions on the packet and drink coffee before attenpting anything. Although we had the luxury of a hostel all to ourselves, we were nonetheless glad to leave behind the musty carpet smell of our dorm. We saw a stray sheep the day before. We do not know if he found his flock. He nearly came to us and was all alone, which is why we assumed he was lost. Poor sad sheep. 🐑
The first 10km of the day were relatively dry and the setting was gorgeous. We saw a ghost house where only the stone chimney remained. We followed an old train line along Loch Oich, passed through a tunel and marvelled at metal pathways above our heads for the rivers. The highlight of the morning was finding compost toilets that were UNLOCKED. Yay us.
The afternoon was wet. But the arrival in Fort Augustus was worth the whole afternoon – superbe!
We saw: a daring robin, a lizard/newt, enough benches, many locks, contradicting signs on the direction of the Great Glen Way, NO trashcans, sheep sheltered from the rain by pines and white water.
Once again alone in our dorm, we appreciate the small pleasures of life like clean carpet, intense shower pressure and warm water. Tonight, we ate a gargantuesque meal. Lynne took a small sip of whisky, made a face and generously handed it all back to Suz. We are off to bed, shortly after the sun. Live long and prosper 🖖🏼

…
